Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jaylalithaa on Sunday said over 17,000 land grab complaints have been received after AIADMK came to power in May and her government had arrested over 700 accused and returned land worth Rs.624 crore to the dispossessed owners.
Campaigning for her party candidate M.Paranjothi for the Tiruchirapalli (West) by-poll, Jayalalithaa said: 'After my government came to power, 17,431 land grab complaints have been received and 718 cases have been registered. 755 land grabbers have been arrested and land worth Rs.624.66 crore have been restored to rightful owners.'
She said the wrong does are undergoing punishment while the state is progressing on the path of prosperity.
Coming down heavily on the DMK's candidate and former minister K.N. Nehru, she said: 'Not only the general public, but even sysmpathisers of DMK are lodging land grab complaints against Nehru.'
Citing the Sarkaria Commission report, she said DMK party had grabbed the land for the party's headquarters Anna Arivalayam in Chennai.
Listing out the welfare measures implemented by her government since May, Jayalalithaa said the power cut problem in the state is going down gradually and steps are being taken to make the state self sufficient in power by next year.
The by-poll is scheduled for Oct 13 and will be a test for Jayalalithaa as the allies who fought the DMK during the April assembly elections are now pitted against AIADMK in the local body elections slated this month.
