Union Minister M K Alagiri's personal assistant (political) and DMK leader Pottu Suresh was on Monday detained under the Goondas Act following a series of land grabbing cases against him.
Suresh, alias Suresh Babu, was detained following instructions from District Collector U Sagayam, police said. A fresh land grabbing case was also filed against Suresh today on a complaint filed by one Amarnat alleging that the DMK leader had grabbed his 40 acres at Sambakulam, a prime locality here, after threatening him.
Meanwhile a Judicial Magistrate court on Monday dismissed the bail pleas filed by Suresh and three other DMK functionaries in connection with a land grabbing case filed against them.
Pappa and Sivanandi of Sengulam had filed the case against the four charging that the DMK leaders had threatened and forced them to sell their 5.14 acres of land for a cheap rate.
They were paid only Rs 40 lakh for the land costing Rs.5.5 crore and forced to sign a power of attorney in July last year when DMK was in power.
